For over 30 years, CIIAN has led the way in negotiation, mediation, and peacebuilding training. What began as Canada’s first national certification programs now extends worldwide — advancing our mission of preventing and resolving destructive conflict. Whether you’re building your own skills, equipping your staff, or pursuing professional credentials, CIIAN training is designed for real-world application.
Core Certificate Programs
Learning Module One: Conflict Dynamics & Strategies
Our highly-acclaimed entry program – “Self and Others” – and the prerequisite for most CIIAN training. Designed for all walks of life, from frontline service to executive leadership, it equips you to prevent, de-escalate, and resolve conflict. Adopted across sectors — from HR to counselling — as a reliable foundation for building conflict competence. [Learn More]
Negotiation
Negotiation is the backbone of leadership and conflict resolution. This program blends strategy, psychology, and applied practice. Suitable for managers, union reps, consultants, and anyone who negotiates as part of their role. Completion leads to eligibility for the Registered Negotiation Professional (RNP) designation — recognition of advanced skill in principled negotiation. [Learn More]
Learning Module Two: Mediation
CIIAN was the first organisation to deliver mediation training across Canada. Our 10-week online cohort program is internationally recognised, IMI-accredited, and remains the standard for those wishing to become certified mediators. While designed for those entering practice, it is also valuable for HR professionals, leaders, and others who need to guide groups toward resolution. [Learn More]
Peacebuilding
A comprehensive advanced program for those working in complex environments — transitional societies, humanitarian emergencies, community peacebuilding. Learn conflict analysis, multi-party dialogue, and applied negotiation/mediation strategies. Ideal for NGO staff, peace practitioners, and policy professionals seeking a global lens. [Learn More]
Workplace & HR Programs
Conflict Triage™: Workplace Conflict Assessment & Early Intervention
When conflict first reaches HR, emotions are high, facts are incomplete, and pressure to act builds quickly. Conflict Triage™ provides HR and Bill C-65 professionals with a structured first-response framework to assess risk, readiness, and power dynamics — and to actively de-escalate and guide informal or negotiated resolution where appropriate.
Participants develop practical early-intervention skills, including perspective rebalancing, structured shuttle conversations, expectation clarification, and disciplined decision-making. The focus is proportionate resolution before escalation to mediation, investigation, or formal complaint processes becomes necessary.
At the same time, the program strengthens professional judgement — clarifying when escalation is required and when it is not. The result is more confident early intervention, fewer unnecessary escalations, and stronger organisational conflict management overall.
The program combines CIIAN’s Learning Module One with a live, applied three-day session focused on workplace scenarios and structured decision-making. Contact us for upcoming offerings and team delivery options.

The Registered Practitioner in Dispute Resolution (RPDR) is CIIAN’s professional designation, offered since 1997, and recognises a broad range of professionals involved in dispute resolution — not only formal mediators. The Certified Mediator (through IMI) is internationally recognised and specifically tied to mediation practice. Some learners pursue designations for career advancement and recognition, while others take our training simply to strengthen their skills.
