Once you’ve completed both Learning Module One: Self and Others (the required prerequisite) and the Negotiation Training Program, you’ll earn your Certificate in Negotiation from CIIAN. This certificate demonstrates your ability to apply core and advanced negotiation principles across a variety of contexts.

Yes. You’ll have 12 weeks to complete Learning Module One and 180 days to complete the Negotiation Training Program. That gives you structure and momentum—without rushing your learning.

The entire program is fully online and self-paced. You can complete the modules on your own schedule, but within the timelines mentioned above. No live sessions are required for the certificate.

To earn your certificate, you’ll need to complete the short written exercises and final quiz included in the Negotiation Training Program. These are practical and designed to help you apply the skills, not trip you up. You can redo the quiz if needed.

Yes. If you’re ready to take things further, you can pursue CIIAN’s Registered Negotiation Professional (RNP) designation. This optional advanced credential involves applying your skills in real-world scenarios, submitting a reflective portfolio, professional references, and completing a live role-play assessment. The process is designed to unfold over time and requires a minimum of six months to complete after earning your certificate.

The RNP is an advanced designation that demonstrates your ability to apply negotiation skills in real-world, high-stakes contexts. After earning your Certificate in Negotiation, you can apply for the RNP. Here’s what’s involved:

  • Minimum 6-month application period (to ensure meaningful real-world application)

  • Negotiation Portfolio – Submit 3–5 examples of negotiations you’ve led or participated in, with analysis and reflection

  • Live Role-Play Assessment – Participate in a live online negotiation scenario evaluated by experienced assessors

  • Professional References – Provide references from individuals who can speak to your negotiation competence

  • Commitment to Code of Conduct – Agree to uphold CIIAN’s ethical standards for professional negotiators

  • Ongoing Development – Participate in CIIAN’s Continuing Competence Program to keep your skills current

This process is rigorous—but it’s designed to be flexible and achievable for working professionals ready to demonstrate advanced negotiation capability.

Yes. Some people prefer to audit the material or develop their skills without pursuing a credential. While we encourage certification, it’s not mandatory.

We’ve been teaching negotiation for over 30 years, and our approach blends deep theoretical insight with real-world application. You’ll learn both value-creating (win-win) and value-claiming (competitive) strategies, and get tools you can use in everything from workplace discussions to complex multi-party negotiations.

Is this program right for you?

In many courses, negotiation is taught as a set of tricks or scripted tactics—but real negotiations demand more. This program goes beyond those surface-level tactics to build a comprehensive skill set. You’ll not only learn effective techniques, but also understand the “why” behind them—from managing emotions to uncovering underlying interests. It’s a deeper, more holistic approach that you can draw on in any negotiation situation.

No matter what kind of negotiation you’re facing, the skills you gain here are designed to help. From a straightforward single-issue deal (like negotiating the price of a house) to a complex discussion with many stakeholders (say, aligning multiple teams with different interests on a common goal), this training prepares you to handle it. Because the emphasis is on practical strategies, you can use these skills confidently at work, at home, or in your community.

It’s likely a good fit if any of the following sound familiar:

  • You want more than basic negotiation tips—you’re looking to build real, lasting skills.

  • You find yourself negotiating in your job or personal life and need the confidence to do it right.

  • You have an important negotiation on the horizon (maybe buying a home or closing a business deal) and want to be well-prepared.

  • You sometimes deal with complex negotiations involving multiple people or issues, and you want strategies to find common ground.

  • You value understanding what shapes your decisions—and want to strengthen your ability to make sound choices under pressure.

Whether it’s a simple agreement or a high-stakes conflict, this program equips you with practical, adaptable strategies to handle negotiations with skill and purpose.
